We get dropped info about all types of shows in Colorado. We can’t help them all but some of them we know will be making waves as “what’s next.” Mansions on the Moon have been around for a minute and they have a great live show. We have been watching and when they hit us up about an interview, Hunt said there’s no way we can let them go this time. Make sure to grab a ticket to the Belly Up on April 29th for their show if you are in Aspen. Check them out below in the videos. Enjoy the LA sound of Mansions on the Moon….
When did you first start?
Three years ago in Virginia Beach.
Where is your favorite place to play?
How did you come up with the name?
The name came about in a funny way. We used to be called Avatar before the movie “Avatar” came about. That came out and we had to change our name. We shortened it to AVA for a couple of days and realized we didn’t like that too much. Then one evening, when we were having a party at the beach house where we were living, Ted and I were talking out on the balcony about the moon. That night, the moon looked pretty crazy and we began coming up with cool visual names for that. Ted said something about “man on the moon” and we thought that was already taken, so we said, “What about Mansions on the Moon?” It seemed like a cool visual and later became a cool metaphor for making it in the music business.
What venue is your favorite to play in Colorado, US, & international?
It’s tough to say one venue over another in Colorado, but if we had to say our favorite that we have played, it would be Belly Up in Aspen. As for the U.S. as a whole, Terminal West in Atlanta would be my favorite.
What festivals are you playing this spring/summer?
None that we know of yet. We have set aside time to complete this album, but we would love to hop on some festivals this summer for sure.
What’s your favorite food on the road?
Your fashion brands of choice currently?
Alternative Apparel, TOMS, Paul Marie, Marc Jacobs, Lacoste, Clarks, Cole Hann, Ray Ban.
Goals for 2013?
Get this album out.
Any grimy stories from the road worth sharing?
On our first night of the last tour, our merch guy pissed and threw up all over himself in our van. We found him in the van after coming out of an after-party in Austin, Texas. It was grimey.
What should we be watching for this spring?
This spring will be spent finishing our album and planning for its release this year. We are going to be back on the road in the fall with a whole new album of songs to play live and we can’t wait!
