SIA Editor’s Pick – “Street Gear” – Tomahawk International

We were all over SIA watching the threads, hearing the pitches, touching the fun and peeping the gear. Hunt said, “I heard about Tomahawk a couple times from my OG crew. They all said to come introduce myself to Jimbo because he is as real as it gets. They also said they think I’m gonna be Jimbo when I’m older…..So back to the future I went.” Kt and Hunt stopped by the Tomahawk booth on the last day to soak up the good vibes. The gear is real, the creators are legend, and the mission is simple….make truly functional and classically timeless outwear from the roots of street culture. “All or nothing” is the motto…..and the OG’s of the mountain life make it easy to embrace. “Tell you what..Take the shirt. Wear it for me and tell me what you think. But most importantly try to make sure you (hands up in quotes) “test it” as hard as you can here in Colorado. I know it holds up in Tahoe,” Jimbo – owner, designer, OG….

Hunt took home a hoodie and a flannel (the infamous Red & Black Lumberjack – see picture below). He has been wearing them for the week and finally got something to us that we can have you ‘feel’ the brand. @GrimeyGatsby on Instagram is the best way to follow Hunt through his days of Gatsby & grime. Also can catch him on air every Wednesday on “Bless Up with GG.” Here’s his review/testing:

“I took the hoodie first and gave it a nice home test. Inside and out – A whole evening of walking dogs, lounging on the couch, getting the mail, and making sure I put in a few tours of the kitchen. I was going with the ‘apres’ mode that most back country bro’s take to heart…..loungin’ as we would call it back in the day. I like the sweatshirt a lot. It’s half zip, full pocket, heather grey, and completely comfortable. You can tell the boys at TI knew what it meant to relax after a long day in the pow. I just have to watch out that it doesn’t get swiped up by the staff……they always take the good stuff. I wonder if they make it in 20K waterproof like the outerwear?”

“The shirt was so pretty on my dresser that I couldn’t wear it for a couple days. It was an ode to Cali….I was just happy to have the lumberjack flannel in the house. I finally tried it on and experienced the same comfort as the hoodie. Engulfing soft fabrics and complete functional wear. It has the logo in very subdued areas and that speaks to their technique. They are branded effectively but not ‘in your face’ about it. It’s how fashion show be….not how extreme sports has made it today. I enjoy the TI brand for more than the wear. I enjoy the street cred….the fact that I can wear it year round and it doesn’t scream ‘snow.’ It says, ‘I’m classy as f*ck.’ I appreciate that more than I need to let everyone know that I can ski switch these day. The lifestyle that is Tomahawk is solid…it’s secure in itself. Those are things I feel are attractive….in anyone….or brand.”
