Death Cookie Entertainment’s Tate MacDowell – Interview
Extreme sports are something that we fancy. We have it in our roots, we have it on our staff, shit, we even have an EXTREME GG Team that rips the snow all over the world. So it was only fitting to take a break with Tate MacDowell. Tate is the man behind Death Cookie Entertainment….which makes Roner Vision, Every Third Thursday with Signal Snowboards, and Surf House (coming soon). He is Gatsby without a doubt and he has a great sense of humor. Hunt took some time to get dialed for the spring with this crazy kid. Make sure to check out all the grime & Gatsby with Death Cookie Entertainment….
GG: What/who is Death Cookie Entertainment?
Death Cookie is another boring action sports production company! I hope that’s not the case but I desperately wanted to avoid saying some jargon that sounds like I copy and pasted it off of some mission statement. I picked the name Death Cookie, because much like the chunk of snow you encounter on the mountains, you never know where we’ll pop up next.
GG: How long have you been in action sports?
I graduated from Ithaca College in 2003 and took and internship with Teton Gravity Research, so I guess that would be the beginning of my “industry” career. I’ve been making action sports videos that no one has ever seen since about 1996. Ya know, some underground cult classics.
GG: How crazy is Erik Roner?
I get this one a lot! He’s actually one of the most down to earth people I know (no offense to any of my friends).
GG: How are the waves in SD?
Pretty small right now.
GG: What’s the next big thing coming from DCE?
Well, Roner Vision and Signal’s “Every Third Thursday” are every month on Network A! I also have a surf reality show going live soon called “Surf House” (also on Net A)
GG: What’s the best food around you in SoCal?
Bull Taco, East Coast Pizza & Thai Pan Cuisine (All in Cardiff By The Sea)
GG: Any new music/ fashion to check out?
Local Cardiff kid named Austin Burns is pretty amazing!
GG: How cold was lake tahoe when you and Erik jumped in?
water temp was low 50s i think, which was a bit of a shock. Worst part was that I did a front flip and landed on my manhood. Erik had mistakenly grabbed my towel and ran to the car with it.
GG: What are you doing this time of year?
I’m currently doing a lot of work with Network A which includes Roner Vision, Signal “Every Third Thursday” and Surf House (coming soon). Billabong XXL nominees are announced this week, So i’m going to start working all of the content for that. I also have a bunch of great clients like Patagonia, Ezia, Surf Expo, and the occasional project for Brain Farm.
GG: Are you GGFam?
Not sure? You’ll have to ask Grimey (Hunt).
***Side note about Tate MacDowell: “I’m a sucker for a chicken burrito, verde”***
