GG Day at Cannaval
After much planning, construction and hustling, the Hoodlab Cannaval opened its doors on the Monday prior to 4/20. On Tuesday, Grimey Gatsby took over the joint (pun intended) and threw down a good time for the fam! Hunt, President of Grimey Gatsby was on The John Doe Radio Show from 11AM-1PM talking about the event while volunteers and staff geared up to rock an epic day. Even the week’s dreaded snowfall couldn’t damper the irie vibes. With the flaps down on the massive tent, and the heaters going strong, hundreds of people piled into Hoodlab throughout the day to enjoy the music, food and 420- themed games. It was true Colorado Culture.
Even with nearly a foot of snow on the ground (and on top of the tent, until Hunt swept it off) Cannabis lovers gathered, purchased In Hemp we Trust tokens, and went about playing games and scoring swag at the different booths. GGFam photo intern Danielle Herzog ran a fun house style photo booth while Teddy Martinez gave free massages using Apothecanna medicated lotion. The Hood Chef and Loco crew kept the grills fired up all day, culminating in a burger eating contest between three voracious fellas later in the evening. Two double cheeseburgers down in no time, and Nkosi was crowned victor of the spoils (a rolling tray piled high with ganja and goodies). Roscoe of Getup Global followed up his fresh piece in the Hoodlab graffiti gallery with some live painting, and nintendo ruled the projection screen all afternoon. Piles of brightly colored bean bags played host to all those who wanted to relive their high school days of puffing herb and playing video games….and those who just needed dab naps.
Naps couldn’t last too long, though…not with the killer musical line-up rocking the HEDD sound system. GGFam represented strong, with tunes coming hot from Gryme Tyme, Coult 45, Lord Phazer, DJ Bedz, and Joey Cutty & Seeda of Gully Fam Illy. Headliner Trapzillas closed out the evening with a bangin set, and another grimey day came to a close….keep it Gatsby y’all, and don’t miss Cannaval 2014!
