Waking Up to Wanderlust
This Fourth of July weekend you could celebrate freedom with hot dogs and fireworks and parade floats….or you could celebrate and cultivate true freedom through creative expression, community development and personal transformation. We’re speaking, of course, of the Colorado version of the Wanderlust Festival, set to take over Copper Mountain from July 4th through July 7th.

Guru Gatsby lives in the now….but even right now we’re very excited about what the coming weekend has to offer. Both internationally acclaimed and regional innovators make up the roster of yoga teachers and meditation teachers on the schedule. Carefully selected venues offer an array of spaces in which to practice, and the styles are diverse and plentiful. In addition, each day features guided hikes (plus rafting and mountain biking excursions for an added fee)…making the most of the Colorado landscape and encouraging the connection to nature and the appreciation of our environment. The Wanderlust Speakeasy will play home to thought-provoking lectures and engaging Q&As on a variety of subjects. as well.
Amongst the other offerings of this amazing festival are the Farm to Table Dinner, Winderlust wine tasting, and the Healing Village. While these options are not included in the ticket price, they are available to any yogi or yogini who so desires. So sip a tasty red, enjoy local fare, or get an acupuncture session if your budget allows! More dollars to spare? Check out the vast vendor village, full of conscious entrepeneurs sharing their sustainably produced clothing, healthy snacks, and pure self-care products. Grimey Gatsby is looking forward to forging connections with new businesses in line with sustainability and purpose. Look for some of our fresh discoveries in these pages following the event.
Born of the fusion of musical event production and the burgeoning US yoga culture, Wanderlust is a uniquely integrated event that features music complimentary to the yogic principles….and to just plain booty-shaking! The offerings range from EDM veteran Moby (who will also play an acoustic set) to Rocky Mountain bluegrass songsters Blue Canyon Boys, the breath-taking fusion performances of Quixotic and the Wanderlust Spectacular 2013. Certain yoga classes will also be accompanied by tunes from DJ Drez and more. Creativity, expression and movement shall come together just as mind and body unify, and the community coalesces. How blessed can we get?
Since the festival falls on the holiday weekend, organizers have been sure to create feature loads of family friendly activities. On Saturday July 6th kids can participate in the Primp My Ride Kid Powered Parade. Using recycled materials and paint, the little ones can decorate their own bike, skateboard or roller skates (starting at 10AM). At 11AM these newly decked out modes of transport will line up to parade through the Village with the Copper Fire Department. Also on Saturday, July 6 there will be a free family festival-within-a-festival from 11am-4pm that will include juggling and hula hoop-making workshops, stilt workshops, Cosmis Fire Poi Spinning, and face painting. From 2pm-3pm there will be Hoop and Poi workshops with the Hoola Monsters. Both events are free for particpants and open to drop ins, but adults must accompany children. In addition to Wanderlust’s activities, all of Copper Mountains attractions–including bumper boats and mini golf– will be 20% with a Wanderlust wristband.
So whether you’re a family of four looking for a healthy way to celebrate the Fourth, an avid yogi excited to practice with internationally-renowed masters, or a newbie looking to dip your toes into the pool of love that is this community—come join in the fun! Wake up to Wanderlust. Wake up to awareness, compassion, and growth. Wake up to your most radiant you!
