iPhone 5C Product Review!!
The latest iPhones, the 5S and 5C are finally here, and GG social media admin Eryn managed to cop one! Better yet, she let the GG staff fool around with it to see what all the hype was about. The new iPhone 5C (with ‘C’ presumed to stand for ‘color’) comes in an array of bright, eye-popping shades: blue, pink, green, yellow and white. Eryn opted for white – “That way I can change up the color of the case – the phone color I can’t change”.
The 5C is Apple’s first attempt at targeting a crowd with a little less cash to spare – and we dig it. Unlike the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, and 5S, the 5C has a plastic casing instead of glass. We know what you’re thinking: plastic = cheap. In most cases, and in most phones, you’d be right – but not now. The phone is smooth and feels solid and comfortable in your hand – basically, anything but cheap. We did a little research on the Apple website and found out exactly what’s so special about this plastic: “…we built iPhone 5c around a steel-reinforced frame that also acts as an antenna. It’s attached to the outer shell in individual pieces, then laser‑welded together to achieve a precise fit. This structural integrity makes iPhone 5c pleasingly solid to the touch — unlike any plastic phone you’ve ever held.”
New to the 5C is the A6 chip. If you’d like to know the super technical stuff, check out more of the 5C on the Apple site. All we needed to know is that it offers 10 hours of LTE browsing time, 10 hours of talk time, and 10 hours of video playback time. Having had it for almost a week now, Eryn says she’s had yet to see the 20% red-zone battery alert yet. Also, after having been through an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and Droid Incredible, she says it’s insane how fast the LTE service is on this phone, and it’s available ina lot more places than you’d think. Also new to the 5C is the infamous iOS7 software. Let’s be honest – it’s completely different – but in a good way! The face of almost everything you do on your iPhone has gotten a facelift, from the alarm clocks, to texting, to apps, to the lock screen. It may be slightly jarring at first, but once you get used to it, new, awesome and refreshing.
A few other notable new features of the iPhone 5C:
– Control Center: simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen, even on the lock screen (you can turn this off also), and you’ve got a bunch of popular features there instantly – flashlight, wifi, calculator, camera, alarm clock, air drop, and iPod functions for music.
– Air Drop: Let’s you share anything – photos, contacts, web pages, videos – with anyone else, from any app. Just go to your Control Center and tap share, select a contact, BOOM.
– iTunes Radio: Apple’s new Pandora-like service. Extremely rare ads, and a much more generous amount of skips available. It’s free, and you can create your own stations with a lot more options than Pandora.
– Multi-tasking:Easily switch between open apps!! Double tap the home button and you’ll get a preview of the apps much like you would when you have multiple pages open in Safari. This is also how you close apps to preserve battery life.
Overall, Eryn says she’s in love with her new phone, but she has had issues connecting specifically to her home wifi. After looking online, she says others have had similar issues, and is hoping for an update to correct the problem soon. Other than that, she has a smile on her face and no complaints.
