Great American Beer Fest 2013
Last weekend marked the return of Denver’s world famous Great American Beer Festival held at the Convention Center downtown. The three-day annual festival was hosted by The Brewer’s Association, bringing in thousands of beer enthusiasts from around the nation. Beer tasters suited up in every kind of costume imaginable to show their enthusiasm and spirit. Many tasters were sporting pretzel necklaces to munch on in between tastings, leaving their hands free to try dozens of delicious 1 ounce samples of stouts, lagers, pumpkin ales, IPAs, and more!
The GABF offers the nation’s largest beer tasting and competition selection with 84 different beer categories, awarding bronze, silver, and gold medals to the best of the best. Colorado gold winners included Great Divide Brewing’s Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout, Trinity Brewing’s Elektrick Cukumbahh, and Steamworks Brewing’s Slam Dunkel. In Colorado’s silver category, winners included Rock Bottom Brewery’s The Hammer, Glenwood Canyon Brewery’s Hanging Lake, and Yak & Yeti’s Chai Milk Stout. In third place, Wiley Roots Brewing took home the bronze with their Super 77 Wheat, along with Renegade Brewery’s Hammer, Sickle and Sandlot’s Goat Rancher, and many more! Overall, Colorado brewers received 46 medals, falling second in line to California for total state medals. Click here to see a full list of GABF winners.
