Portugal. The Man – Denver
This past Saturday night Portugal. The Man, who is never short of amazing, played a sold out show at the Ogden Theater. A loud recording of the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody” played before the band made their appearance onto the stage. Opening with the hit “Purple, Yellow, Red, and Blue” off their newest album, the crowd quickly went from the soothing sounds of the well-known classic to a beastly roar. Lasers began to flash on a huge mountain-like cutout towering over the stage, the fantastic light/art show kept the focus of the stage on the background rather than the dimly lit musicians. In a mind blowing 100 minute set and a non-stop 11 straight songs (including their unique covers of Beatles songs), Portugal. The Man didn’t disappoint as they are always fantastic live. Portugal left the stage to screams for an encore. They returned to finish the show off with “Chicago” and “The Devil,” transitioning into their own rendition of the Beatles “Helter Skelter”. Finishing off with their trademark ending song “sleep forever” that trails into “hey Jude”, Portugal left the stage leaving everyone in the crowd in awe. Make sure to grab a ticket and get to the show nearest you. After seeing them in Aspen and, now, Denver….this is a band that you cannot miss.
