Trick or Thriftworks
Sub.Mission pulled out all the stops for an epic Halloween week dual-venue bash at Cervantes Ballroom and The Other Side this week. This “Especially Dark” evening featured headliners Megalodon and Thriftworks, each bringing their own flavor to the respective venues. Megalodon rocked The Other Side with his Monster Mash of West Coast Bass with deep Dubstep, including plenty of nods to the roots of the genre. Meanwhile Thriftworks brought the Ballroom crowd on a journey from the dark to the sexy to the just plain dancefloor rocking. In a nod to The Shining–which was filmed at Colorado’s famed Stanley hotel—Thriftworks used a sample from the film’s score in his opening track.
Warming up the crowd local duo 2Nutz were some of the only DJs to sport costumes, but their signature sound (self-defined as “lazer crunk”) gave away their true identities. San Fransisco based DubVirus followed next, bringing his heavy stepping originally tracks and fresh remixes to the table and making a solid mark with the costumed crowd. Sub.Mission Resident Coult-45, disguised as a “bass monster”, lived up to his costume by bring monster-sized womp to the die-hards who closed down The Other Side, as a surprise closer set from Demon and Biome thrilled the ballroom.
