A Basin Opening Weekend
It’s that time of year! What time you ask? Time to make those first turns of the season.Last weekend October 17-19 2014.The one and only legendary A basin ski resort in Colorado opened it’s gates to be the very first ski resort to open for business.Really showing other states how Colorado handles skiing, with an all time seriousness of course! This is why I moved to this great state.Early season snowboarding and late into the season. What more could you really ask for?
Myself and a Colorado native headed up to A basin yesterday, and arrived there exactly when they opened. We finished gearing up,I had to purchase a ticket which was $70 bucks! She had already had her season pass. Then headed up to the lift line.We were so glad we decided to come up that early, because there was no line for the first three runs. Then by the 4th run,the long lines started to form, and there was literally only 1 run open.So there was definitely an extreme amount of people on this one trail. But we still didn’t care because we knew what we were getting ourselves into,as for we were eager to start the snowboarding season!
After about the 5th run we met up with some other people that she knew in the parking lot and did a little tailgating and a mandatory safety meeting. Both of us decided to lose a layer because the sun broke through and it was starting to get toasty.Headed back up to the lift line, at this point it was about a 20 min wait.We passed the lift line waits with goofing off, vape pens and soaking in that sun!Ended the day with a couple runs in the park. Then we headed out at like 2:20pm to beat that vicious traffic on 70. First day was a blast and can’t wait for more days on the mountain.
