Cosby Sweater – Denver #TBT
Earlier this month in Denver, Cosby Sweater played two unforgettable nights at the 1UP Colfax Arcade Bar/Music Club. Fans gathered at the heart of the city, sipped on some of Colorado’s favorite brews and played quarter pinball and PAC-MAN games, all while listening to some dance party music playing in just the other room. Cosby Sweater sold out both nights, not playing any repeats of their funky tunes. Special but frequent guest Joel Cummins of Umphrey’s McGee joined in on the fun both Friday and Saturday. Cosby Sweater played four groovin’ sets, keeping the crowd moving all night long.
The minute I enter the 1UP Colfax a youthful feeling takes over. The bar walls are lined with classic arcade video games, fifty to be exact. In addition, The 1UP Colfax has nineteen pinball machines, ski ball and a live music venue. The game room and venue are both equipped with full service bars and a friendly staff. The venue area is personal, but don’t get your panties in a bunch about space, it holds over 500 people! The restrooms and smoking lounge are easily accessible which makes nights out more enjoyable!
Cosby Sweater doesn’t waste any time getting those booties tickin’. As I looked at the stage, to my right was David Embry on live mixing/production/vocals, Nicholas Gerlach on saxophone/EWI/keys was front and center and Jeff Peterson kept the beat on drums. The trio’s music portrays jazz, soul and playful keyboard beats with a touch of that electro-funk feel. Midway through Friday night’s show, I was caught by surprise with what sounded like a little drum and bass action. I really enjoyed the variety of music being played. The music becomes infectious when those sax sounds groove in and out through every song, making it impossible not to move your body. It was one of my favorite parts of the night. Another aspect of Cosby Sweater that I enjoyed was how most, if not every song segued into the next allowing fun, sexy, flowing beats to build upon one another. A dance party it was!
Cosby Sweater has been on the road playing music since 2012. The trio has shared the stage with artists such as Pretty Lights, Moon Taxi, Umphrey’s McGee, Lotus, Conspirator and EOTO. They have played in major music festivals including Summer Camp, The Werk Out Festival and Electric Forest, where we saw Cosby Sweater for the first time at the end June 2014. The group shows zero sign of slowing down!
