Palletfest – Denver’s First Certifiably Green Event

A new and unique festival is coming to Denver, October 11 & 12th in front of the Denver Performing Arts Complex.   PalletFest is Colorado’s 1st major upcycle festival!  The event has been selected to be Denver’s First Certifiably Green Event and a certificate is to be presented by Mayor Michael B. Hancock the evening of the 11th.  Palletfest will showcase upcycling as its theme- the practice of taking “waste” materials and using them to create new objects of greater value than their original purpose. For example an old wooden pallet can become a wine rack, a table, a house, and in this case…even a Festival.

Attendees will get to explore a giant pallet maze, see the first ever 2 day pallet build off, view sustainable living demo’s, watch an upcycle fashion show, and shop from numerous upcycle art vendors. Along with that attendees will also get to enjoy live musical entertainment, see professional parkour athletes on an upcycled obstacle course, and much more.
Over 200 Million pallets end up in landfills every year, and Colorado ranks nearly dead last in the nation for recycling.   Palletfest wants to put Colorado back on the map through the practice of upcycling; and the city of Denver was chosen to host the festival for this reason.   Attendees will become more aware of the waste problems and creative solutions for it.  This event is about Do-It-Yourself ( DIY ) creativity and education as much as it is entertainment and the environment. Not everyone will become an upcycle artist however the movement has created new artisans and a market for them. This boosts local economies AND brings attention to the waste cycle. The event is FREE to the public in hopes that Palletfest can expose as many people as possible to this cause.  Already being sponsored by the City of Denver Arts and Venues, 5280 Magazine, Habitat for Humanity, WoodCraft, and many others, this event is shaping up to become Colorado’s next major ANNUAL festival!
