Dilated Peoples & Souls of Mischief #TBT
Dilated Peoples and Souls of Mischief tore up Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom on Saturday, September 20th in an epic dual-venue hip-hop throwdown that won’t soon be forgotten.
For the seasoned hip hop fan, it was certainly surprising to see Souls of Mischief open for Dilated Peoples. Their crowd started sparse but filled in as their set went along and every single fan was thoroughly engaged. They played all the early hits, from “93 til Infinity” to “Proper Aim” to “Cab Fare”. Time stopped for an hour as the crowd was transported back to the early 90’s with Souls of Mischief and their super dope, old-school set.
Dilated Peoples, having just played two sold-out shows with Jurassic 5 in July at the Ogden, hardly seemed phased by the much smaller crowd at Cervantes. Always one of the most epic parts of their set – DJ Babu, 2nd to none – killed it with a special set of his own, which really got the crowd pumped. Playing old favorites like “Worst Comes to Worst” mixed with new bangers from their latest album, Directors of Photography, the crowd was completely absorbed in their energy for the entire set.
