Ol Dirty Bastard

its all about ideas but their craft their mode their way of letting somebody maybe everybody see their ideas is thru words. invention yes unique for sure but all the pieces preexist so its like arrangement and could we really be sure of the cycle or our position. they hafta be pretty good with words to transmit their solo message maybe even good enough to add stuff that hides the first time through or pops out at you later. even hide things that arent there at all try to transmit the negative and force across a hidden remainder as the cost of absorbing the explicit

Sometimes a good idea is there see it or not but either way it doesn’t get through. Expression arguably does not occur. at the end of the day credit for word play andor verbal competence can be difficult to evaluate but communitas “the spirit of democracy” as in a connection of understandings so as to facilitate coexistence and cooperation just IS the root of shared expression and knowledge production

Over time reviewers have approached the rapper known as the Ol’ Dirty Bastard in many ways. Certainly his communication skills per se commanded different types of respect from critical from casual from deaf from open ear. Some fools literally still cannot even understand what he is saying so the meaning behind his words, to them, may not even exist in a deeper way.

I admit to thinking, for a while, that ODB may just have been a radical flank to the true Wu genius. I mean sure his name was three words long but still somehow long enough for its own vernacular timing and rhythm … but what was that worth?

talking about what he brought to wu-tang clan, what he taught method man masta killa ghostface the rza the gza inspectah deck ugod raekown the chef, he speaks of channeling his natural powers in a 1995 interview following the release and tour of their groundbreaking debut. referencing the rest of wu many of whom were both fam and fam ODB retells “ we got on stage .. but i had to bring out the liveness in em, that shit

see this knowledge sandwiched between videotaped performances around 2:45 and find this quote at 3:10

twenty years ago. when he was young and strong, long before he was resting in power ODB was implicitly discussing where he got his second letter his middle name that infamously ambiguous adjective “dirty”

that shit

he useta say he was “old” like old school and a “bastard” bc there was no father to his style. not only did he acknowledge the difficulties and contradictions of his music and life by branding himself an oxymoron — the first of a school he called old, primordial futurism or time travel — he took the title “dirty” upon himself to commit to his natural-ness to commit to expressing himself who he was his concentrated inner being his shit his grime

for ODB naturalness and creativity are one and must be present in the (at least self) expression of ideas. the balance ODB wanted to demonstrate is achieved everywhere. not just his name but his initials couldn’t avoid math or symmetry. in reverse these shapes these images the way the lines are drawn cant help but show off the potential behind arbitrary and even incidental symbology.

is B more than two Ds stacked? and if so how is D anythingmore than half the circle O. stupid shit like that is what im tryna square for thegrimeygatsby. thanks to the youth of the future and elders of the past like odb for the real pro tools. maybe read it maybe don’t.

Read me for content on rap music, shows, political events, and social justice namely racism, police authority, and information warfare. might not be this grimey on the always but the form and message are gonna have their own alignment
