0Winter on the Rocks 2015!!!!
On January 30th, 2015 Red Rocks Amphitheater once again awoke in the middle of its winter hibernation for one night to celebrate snow sports, music, and lifestyle here in Colorado. Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks was the 4th Annual Winter show at Red Rocks and featured Major Lazer, Damian Marley and Holy Ghost! As the venue filled up with thousands of passionate friends and family of Icelantic, the energy poured into the two iconic red rocks, illuminating the stage for each of the performers. With good vibes in abundance, Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks was one for the books!!
Temperatures were nearly freezing but that didn’t stop bundled up Eskimos from partying in the lots surrounding the amphitheater. Entering Red Rocks that night, Holy Ghost was the opening act setting the tone just right on this frosty night motivating us to keep our bodies in constant motion.
Co-headliner, Damian Marley took the stage following a satisfactory set by Holy Ghost. He is the youngest son of Bob Marley and made the following comment during his performance. “I have to say, I am pleased to be in such a civilized state, that would legalize marijuana,” Marley said. “I commend you. This a good place to be.” Marley sure did seem to be enjoying himself thoroughly not giving a rat’s tail about the weather conditions. Marley played a handful of appreciable covers of his father’s music as the venue continued to fill with silly costumes and wide grins trickling closer and closer to the stage. A proper set by Damian Marley was wrapped up appropriately with “Welcome to the Jamrock.”
Diplo takes the stage, high energy. Dancers shaking everything they got on either side of the classy suited up producer. The tempo of Major Lazer’s set was ruthless, releasing track after track and telling the crowd numerous times, despite the cold to “put your hands up and get crazy!” Smoke machines complimented the stage on either side adding to the hype of it all. Screen printed towels and candy were constantly being thrown out to the crowd as the bludgeoning bass boomed in sync with multiple strobe lights and other odd visuals. Diplo kept the crowd pleased with constant changes in tempo raving through the crowd.
At one point in the night, fans were instructed to “take their clothes off…” and most followed as Diplo rips off his shirt yelling… “Colorado doesn’t give a fuck!” The audience was rewarded with a new single called “Blazin.” Diplo played as late as he possibly could when all house lights came on around 11:30p and everyone gathered their items and shambled out of the amphitheater.
