Es Paradis – Ibiza Opening Party
I arrived to the beautiful island of Ibiza, one of the biggest party centrals in all of Europe, on May 15, 2015. It’s my second year coming for the whole summer and as soon as I walk off the airport to meet Rafa and Pola, two really close friends that I met last year, they tell me that we have the whole week planed ahead of us. They drive me to my hostel in San Antonio, located on the north side of the island to drop off my baggage and get ready for the opening of Café Mambo, which is also on the San Antonio sunset strip, with legendary DJ Digweed playing behind the decks.
Es Paradis is one of the oldest clubs in Ibiza, located across from the San Antonio bay on Carrer Salvador Espriu, 20, Sant Antoni de Portmany is the optimal location for anybody staying on this side of the island. This year Es Paradis will be celebrating their 40th anniversary and The Grimey Gatsby was invited to the opening on May 16, 2015.
DJ Oliver, Angel Linde, Clara da Costa, Jason Bye and Steeve Valverde were the main acts for the night. With a 3000 capacity the place was wall-to-wall filled with partygoers ready to experience what Ibiza has to offer. I found out that due to general elections the main party that was supposed to happen this week, Space at Playa den Bossa, was moved to the 31st of May, so everybody that booked a flight for this week—had to find alternative places to party.
The music was a combination of house, electro, and commercial dance accompanied by scantly dressed dancers throughout the different levels on the dance floor. The main dance floor is a pool where Es Pardis will be doing water parties on Tuesday and Wednesday, but this night it was lined up with throw pillows as a type of lounge. And just like Riley from The Boondocks theorized and proved, if you throw a steel chair and instigate a fight, well pillows work in the same way. A massive pillow fight ignited through the whole dance floor so naturally I joined in the fun.
Music played until early hours the next morning and I saw a overall a very good night and very friendly staff that foreshadowed what the nightlife will be like all summer at Es Paradis.
