Hollywood is Forever – Movie Night

Under the moon, relaxing on the Douglas Fairbanks Lawn at the “Hollywood Forever Cemetery” in Hollywood, at 6000 Santa Monica Blvd, a film is being projected onto the side of a giant, white, wall; a mausoleum. Nearly 3,500 people lay back, snuggle, laugh, enjoy beer or wine with their cheese plates, and revel in the camaraderie of “their people.” This is a cemetery, right? Rudolph Valentino and George Harrison are buried here, correct? They are, and thank goodness we can appreciate the full moon rising over the crowd, enjoying the evening.

cinespia.org has been hosting movie screenings, al fresco at the cemetery since the first screening of Alfred Hitchock’s “Strangers on a Train” in 2002. It has become quite the to do since that first screening. Just this summer has seen movies such as “Vacation,” “Napoleon Dynamite,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “Harold and Maude,” “The Virgin Suicides,” and “Casablanca.”

Perfect for large groups, dates, or something new to try in this city where you never know where you may end up. Perhaps a cemetery, willingly, having a great time watching movies. Most of the screenings also have photo booths in the theme of the film being shown. These tend to produce some of the funniest memories of moments you and your group, may not remember without the photographic evidence, if you’re doing it right.
It couldn’t be simpler to purchase your tickets and parking online at cinespia.org, and all of the staff are lovely. I have personally celebrated four different birthdays here, it’s perfect and a good time, every time.
