Nightmares on Wax – Recap
This past Thursday, Nightmares on Wax (aka DJ E.A.S.E.) and Peanut Butter Wolf came over to Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom to rock a quick set.
I arrived at the beginning of Peanut Butter Wolf’s set, and, having never seen him before, I was pleasantly surprised. The founder of Stones Throw definitely has some legs of his own to stand on. It was a dj set that felt similar to Nightmares on Wax – combining hip hop with other various elements – combined with two screens that had an awesome visual display of old images combined with crazy visuals.
Finally, DJ E.A.S.E. – aka Nightmares on Wax – came on and began his much-anticipated set. As the seamless blend of the track’s funk and reggae elements kicked life into the crowd, the bar was set high from the outset. The vibe was chill – no real distinction between tracks, but just a continuous flow of some classic Nightmares vibes. I enjoy that part of DJ sets in that you never know what kind of mood they’re feeling that night – they appear to just go with it. The crowd went with it too – everyone was vibing and enjoying this rare appearance. It was over by 1am – the perfect Thursday night show.
