Oddisee at Lost Lake – recap
Lost Lake is a newer venue, off Colfax and Colorado, right near the Bluebird. It’s tiny as hell, which provided the perfect setting for an intimate show with Oddisee and his live band, Good Company. Having seen Oddisee in April at The Other Side, I was honestly not prepared for how hard he and the band rocked this tiny little venue.
He was hanging around during all the opening acts, allowing anyone to take pictures and shake his hand. He seems to be a pretty quiet and humble guy – rocking jeans and a plain white t-shirt with a beanie. When it was his turn, he casually walked on to the stage and it began. “You ready to rock?” he asked the crowd. “We ready to roll!” the crowed gleefully shouted back. The live band just killed it – complete with guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and a guy rocking the MPC. They rocked a few J Dilla covers, and even played a song mocking Drake – a treat for the true heads in the building. At one point, Oddisee even stopped playing and called out two drunk girls taking selfies in the very front, demanding that they “respect my art”, which was another delightful highlight. Overall, I was super impressed with the energy he brought to the tiny venue – I walked away wanting more.
