Recon 12th Year – recap
This past weekend we all piled into Bar Standard on Broadway in Denver to celebrate 12 years of Recon Drum and Bass. The homie, drum and bass legend, Dylan came through for an old school dnb/jungle set. Bossman over at Freak recordings, really knows how to lay on a thick layer of disgusting bass. Freak Recordings is a UK‑based drum n bass record label, owned and run by Dylan Hisley, which deals predominantly in heavier sub-genres of drum and bass. Like i said straight nastiness! Recon never disappoints when they throw a show that’s for damn sure! And when their anniversary as a company comes around you best be there because they are coming guns blazing. They prove that every time! We arrived at Bar Standard a little after 9 to catch some of the opening acts. No media pass this time because we were supporting a couple homies. The first couple openers consisted of Homemade Weapons and Chrissy Murderbot. Both dj’s executed their sets with creativity and precision. It was a good warm up for the old school set Dylan was about to drop. We meet up with the badmon before he went on to buy him some stellas and chit chat for a bit and catch up on some things.
I met Dylan back in 2008 when I was chilling in the VIP section posted up with Dustin Cox from Cannon boys aka Dj C (R.i.p. Dustin). And since then I’ve kept in contact with Dylan over the years. When we heard he was coming to Denver for an old school dnd set, we were beyond stoked! It was time for the homie to hit the stage. Once on stage we met up with another homie and the master of ceremonies X-TS emcee. Dylan wasted no time getting right down to business with classics like “Need You” featuring DJ Ink and “Dark Skies” and finally closing out the night with one of our absolute favorites “Faith In Chaos”- possession remixed by Kemal and Rob Data. Man, what a superb night of old school jungle and drum and bass!!! Recon does it again with a outstanding turnout at bar standard. Can’t wait for the upcoming shows from Recon and will be anticipating the 13th year anniversary next year. See you all out there.
