Rad Lodging in Rad Locations – Ski Bum’s Budget

Winter is coming on strong with a massive storm about to hit the west coast, and colder temperatures and precipitation sweeping across the Rocky Mountains. That means its time to start planning your ski trips. Take a couple days or a couple weeks to satisfy your craving for pow. Here is a list of spots that every ski bum should check out.

The Hostel, Jackson Hole, WY

By far, The Hostel is the most affordable place to crash at the resort. Dorm beds start at $20 and $34 a night during the respective low and high seasons. A recently boosted Wifi, plenty of ski lockers and a place to tune your gear, as well as a pool table and game room keep everyone happy when they’re not shredding the incredible terrain at Jackson.

Hi-Banff Alpine Center, Banff, Alberta

Located in one of the most beautiful regions in North America, this place is a must see. With very affordable dorm beds and the exchange rate in your favor (if you’re coming from the US), free bus transportation, Wifi and a rocking pub and a restaurant on site the Hi-Banff Alpine Center is good place to post up as the snow flies.

Fireside Inn, Breckenridge, CO

Smack dab in the middle of the historic district in Breckenridge, the Fireside Inn is just a short walk to the Gondola and downtown Breck. Serving as both a hostel and a B&B, it is a great place for families and ski bums alike.

The Snow Mansion, Taos, NM

Located in Arroyo Seco, about 20 minutes from the resort, The Snow Mansion is perfect for powder hounds for in search of rowdy terrain, tasty green chili and even tastier powder. Dorm beds start at $26 a night. Plenty of heady art galleries and food shops are within walking distance to keep you occupied after a day off shredding Taos Resort.

Fireside Lodge, Whistler, British Columbia

Sitting in the shadow of North America’s largest vertical ski resort and right on the bus route, Fireside Lodge fits into any ski bum’s budget. Dorm rooms are just 25 Canadian bucks. There are tons amenities like a laundry room, kitchen, sauna, game rooms and a barbeque. But if you’re looking to party till the break of dawn, look elsewhere as they promote a quite, clean family atmosphere.

The Avenues Hostel, Salt Lake City, UT

Although you’re not at the base of the many resorts around Salt Lake City, The Avenues provides cheap lodging, a solid staff, free parking and a kitchen. It’s definitely a good place for someone looking to explore the numerous ski hills or backcountry zones in the area.
