Gem and Jam – Recap
Our family here at Grimey Gatsby were stoked to attend this year’s infamous Gem and Jam Music Festival and it was out of this world! Corresponding with Tucson’s Gem and Mineral Show, it is the perfect opportunity for this event to become a mix between a beautiful spiritual dance party with the Gem and Mineral community. As we made our way through the windy roads to arrive, the excitement began to flow through our bodies! It was a feast for the eyes as we began to walk through the event and see a story unfold right before us.
It was such a treat to also watch Chris Dyer collaborating on a painting with Aaron Brooks as they were also dancing to the beats of The Polish Ambassador. There were some unforgettable vendors and artists showing their work at the high end art galleries with amazing pieces on display, but my favorite vendor hands down, had to be Jason Burruss with his exquisite and intricate wire wraps! It was dope to see him and his girl perform during the Solular set on Valentine’s Day. Another memorable moment was getting lost watching the psychedelic paintings that Ellie Paisley aka @hazypaisley was painting live, right in front of everyone.
The music was unlike no other, and it was such an experience to hear the assortment of electronic and experimental tunes. The vitality of the crowd and the performers created such passion on and around the stage. Michal Menert really got the crowd dancing, as he was playing songs from his new album, Space Jazz. Despite the occasional dust in the eye, everyone just kept on dancing. Adam Deitch, Exmag, Manic Focus & Marvel Years even lead a dance party at 5am for the festival goers that were camping out there that night! Needless to say, it was another success for Gem and Jam, and 2016 was nothing short than spectacular!
