Mt. Daly East Couloir
Normally you wouldn’t even think of skiing Mt. Daly until April, but with spring-like temperatures and minimal snowfall, big spring lines are available a little early this year.
With the crew capped at 5 we headed up the West Snowmass Creek drainage to set up basecamp. After a gourmet freeze-dried dinner we shared stories, laughs and thoughts about the ensuing summit.
The 3 am wake-up call came earlier than we would have liked. Slipping out of our sleeping bags and out into the brisk night wasn’t easy but we eventually trudged upwards. The sun rose just as we reached the basin below the immense face of Daly. Transitioning to the book pack, the crew continued up the East Coulior.
Once we reached the ridge we witnessed on of the best views of Capital Peak in the entire Elk Range. Big smiles and high fives exchanged up top, we descended into the 1000 vertical foot couloir.
Short film on our trip coming out soon!
