Edible Utensils – Just in Time for Camping Season
Narayana Peesapaty, of Hyderabad, India, has come up with one of our favorite ideas yet: Bakeys, the edible forks, spoons and chopsticks for you to eat with – and then eat.
The utensils are made from a mix of millet, rice and wheat flours and are baked dry. They also come in three flavors, plain, sweet or spicy, so the flavor won’t mess with your food. They’re also free of any waste and chemicals, which is seriously awesome because most plastic silverware contains polystyrene, or #6 plastic, which can leach a chemical called styrene. The EPA says that exposure to styrene can cause eye irritation, fatigue and depression. #6 plastic is also recyclable, but many companies don’t recycle it because it’s not cost-effective.
No chemicals, no waste, and a snack to serve a purpose – just in time for the camping season. See more for yourself in the video below.
CNN also notes that #6 plastic is recyclable, but many companies don’t recycle it because it’s not cost-effective.
