Hollywood Cemetery – 15 years of movie night!!

Well cinephiles, it is here. Summer!
cinespia.org is celebrating it’s 15th season showcasing films under the stars at the majestic Hollywood Forever Cemetery. This year’s lineup demands that friends and family come together, enjoy a picnic in enviable weather, trip down memory lane, and take some soon-to-be-infamous evidence in the photo booths. Internationally known DJs spin before and after every show, beer and wine are permitted, NO hard alcohol please.

Hollywood Forever opened it’s gates in 1899, and is the only cemetery actually in Hollywood. The list of celebrities buried here reads like the phone book of Hedda Hopper. From Mel Blanc, to Dee Dee & Johnny Ramone, it is quite a motley crew. The New York Times wrote a piece entirely about how the last person cremated at Hollywood Forever was “Mama” Cass Elliott in 1974, due to the disrepair of the crematory building and her larger size causing some real life complications. The cemetery’s history is mind blowing to say the least. If you can, spend some time perusing the grounds, it is a beautiful and peaceful place with architecture that is not seen so often anymore.

This year the screenings kicked off on May 14, with “Fast Times At Ridgemont High,”
the Amy Heckling directed 1982 classic.

May 21 saw the 1991 Jonathan Demme scare, “The Silence of the Lambs.”
