Global Dance – recap 2016
As we are blessed with amazing temperatures lately, you really couldn’t ask for much better weather at the Global Dance Festival. With that being said, the weather could’ve been a smidge cooler during the day, but regardless, it was beautiful out. This was my first event covered in red rocks, so I made sure to arrive early and check out the tailgating festivities that everyone was telling me about. I arrived to set up and waited for the shuttle to take me backstage to get my credentials.
Tailgating was something I’ve really never seen at many concerts. You could tell the veteran tailgaters from the rookies because they knew exactly what to bring! As I was walking through the aisles, for a second, it felt like flea market because everyone’s was trying to sell me something!
After venturing the aisles of the parking lot, It was finally time to head to the van which would take me to my final destination, to the inside of those beautiful red rocks, to experience some musical magic. Getting inside early was an awesome experience to see such a huge empty space, quickly filled up with music lovers. It was quite a sight to see!
You could feel the energy of the people as they entered the venue, as they were already dancing! Although I would say the first day was a little slower than normal, it was still super lit to see Terravitta perform and move the crowd. What a great feeling it is to see that everyone left with smiles on their faces that evening.
The next day started off a little different. By the time I got there, the south lot was full. We ended up parking in the lower north lot, which added an extra stretch to our walk… and if you know red rocks, you know you’re already in store for a lot of walking and stairs! While we are talking about the stairs at red rocks...shit. Red rocks is no joke when it comes to those stairs, especially when you’re trying to get media coverage on all three stages. Well, enough about us getting super buff at the concert, haha! Saturday took it up a few notches, and the artists jammed out a little harder than the night before, creating an energy that was definitely intense!
Everything seemed to go off without a hitch, and things were going pretty smooth for the most part. The only problem we really saw was when DJ snake encountered a sound issue and they had to bring in a whole new new deck and tables. From there, the party continued, as if nothing had happened. Knife Party killed it, and Terravitta put on a hell of a show, showing lots of love for Colorado. Paul Oakenfold busted out some surprising dance moves which were quite the spectacle to see! Cash Cash got fans singing along, especially to their song, “Take Me Home”. W&W were also a hit, and you could feel the beats thumping through your chest. One of our favorite artists that performed was Ephwurd! Every time I hear that song, “Snapchat that fat ass, don’t Snapchat no duck face” comes on, it gets stuck in my head for days…and well, this time was no different.
You know, we really needed this, after all of these crazy events Grimey Gatsby has been covering! During the show, it was captivating to see the DJs make sure everyone was all on the same level. They reminded us the importance of love, compassion and care!!
P.S. Shout out to all the dancers who cares kept it beautiful, dancing the whole night away, y’all are true MVPs! 😉
