Arrested Development – Recap
Not to be confused with the TV series, Arrested Development are the band that most people forgot about. But not the Grimey Gatsby Squad! We have been keeping our eyes peeled the moment this show was announced for Ophelia’s. And when we saw it was not only one night but a second night was added! This was guaranteed to be a good time and we definitely wanted to be a part of that.
They may be more of a party band these days, but the idealism remains in songs that, beneath the funk and sugar, are laden with references to revolution and Malcolm X. They’ve always stayed true to themselves and their sound and this is why they are still playing to sold out and packed crowds. They played their hearts out and it really showed with a full amount of energy and emotion broadcasted and displayed on their faces as they entertained the guests of Ophelia’s. With them playing two nights at the same venue it was almost impossible for us not to hear any of the classics. “Tennessee,” the band’s catchy No 1 song describing “climbing the trees my forefathers hung from” still sounds powerful, and the sweetly well-intentioned homelessness story Mr Wendal is as relevant as ever. We remember these songs as a kid as a sang along with my friends and the rest of the crowd surprisingly knowing all the words being we hadn’t really sung the lyrics for a good while. Top 10 best shows I’ve ever seen in Denver to this date!
