Mad Decent Block Party AZ – Recap
What a hell of a way to kick off the weekend in Chandler, Arizona by hitting up Mad Decent Block Party, two days in a row! Phoenix had the largest lineup of this EDM tour, and was the only city that featured a multi-day MDBP event. For some reason, Relentless beats knew that one day of fun was not enough for us and they couldn’t pack all these amazing artists all into one day, so we were all awarded with a two day block party! We couldn’t have been more pumped about this year’s lineup as well, check it out:
Brillz, Diplo, FKi1ST, Jackal (DJ set), RL Grime, Snakehips, Tchami, What So Not
Baauer, Dada Life, Flosstradamus, Grandtheft, Justin Martin, Le Youth, Lil Dicky
On September 16th, day one is where everyone went all out and Rawhide event center was jam packed! While entering the venue, we saw a few frustrated fans begging to keep their candy bracelets, as they wanted to keep their rave booty ensemble complete. After stopping by the merch table to grab a few shirts as memoirs, we headed into the chaos of the crowd with smiles on our faces. It still fascinates us how music can evoke so much emotion and energy into a person! With intoxifying vibes, and hours of visual delights, we were immersed in it all. It was an amazing climax of performers leading up to Diplo’s set at the end of the first day. Brillz also did an exceptional job at captivating his audience and drawing them in. With such great artists, it is hard to choose a lineup, but we had hoped What So Not was later in the evening. Regardless, everyone hyped up the crowd, playing collaborations from other artists, blended to their own style.
Day two was not as crowded, but there was no lack of energy as the fans merged as one, once again! Grand Theft threw up some memorable raps, while he balanced on the top of an industrial sized ladder, and jumped into the crowd to grab a blow up sex doll that was floating around. Lil Dicky opened up his set with one of his hits, “Professional Rapper”, followed by a peculiar acapella version of the Star Spangled Banner. Lil Dicky even brought a lucky lady on stage to perform his infamous song, “Lemme Freak” while he unleashed the true freak within as he took off his shirt and gave her a lapdance! Everything was all good as he was receiving love from the crowd until a pivotal moment where Lil Dicky was perhaps too honest. Without hesitation, he joked about how he was a rapper and asked why he was at an edm show. The crowd cheered him on until he confessed he didn’t listen to EDM music and that he didn’t, “get it”. Simultaneously, the entire crowd booed at him while he tried to quickly recover. After a short, awkward moment, some fan tried to save the moment by screaming, “We still love you…” Besides that small hiccup, and the fact that he hugged stage right for most of the set, the show continued without a hitch, and everyone was back to uncontrollable smiles and dancing like the circus animals we are!
Flosstradamus finally took the stage and closed the show with some amazing beats that left us with goosebumps. They have energy that shakes the earth and the crowd went wild as they played many of their hit tracks like, “Crowd Ctrl” and “MFU”. This was such an intense weekend, that we were all so exhausted by the time we were driving home. It was all worth it though, as we survived another Mad Decent Block Party! Be sure to thank Relentless beats, for doing what they do best!
