Prophets of Rage – Red Rocks recap

rs-242887-prophets

It was another magical night at Red Rocks this past Wednesday for Prophets of Rage. The weather was perfect, the night was young, and AWOL Nation started off what was a legendary event. Selling out Red Rocks doesn’t take the same number as your national stadium tour (9,900 vs 30,000) but it does hold something that is completely intangible in the lives of music connoisseurs everywhere. The rocks bring something from deep within any talent that steps on stage. It’s the equivalent to “leveling up” in a video game….energy is on max, sold out crowd to the top of the venue, and the serenity of those massive rocks bring the best sound Mother Nature can make.

Closing out their set with “Sail” brought the crowd to it’s feet. DJ Lord came in for the start of the Prophet’s and dropped a fuego set from the greats – Beasties, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Outkast, Snoop Dogg, and more……DJ Lord can bring the heat and it’s one of the best turntable sets we’ve seen this year.

Chuck D (Vocals – Public Enemy), BReal (Vocals -Cypress Hill), DJ Lord (DJ – Public Enemy), Tom Morello (guitarist – RATM), Tim Commerford (bassists – RATM), and Brad Wik (drums – RATM)…….once you digest that list of musicians we’ll continue with our recap of the history class they put on………

Prophets of Rage put out an album earlier this year and are on tour to speak about the rage needed in this country to take the power back from the government. The album is good…the live show is GREAT!!!! They opened with “Prophets of Rage” and quickly started with the best hits of RATM….a few Cypress Hill tracks….and a couple of Public Enemy tracks…..We were looking for De La Rocha to walk on stage at any moment….it was a bucket list event for anyone that has been following RATM since their start.

BReal and Chuck D carried the vocals but the band was the act on Wednesday. Tom, Brad, and Tim sounded tighter than ever before. Morello’s solo’s were jaw dropping just like years ago. Commerford’s power stance sent shiver’s up many a spine that evening. Wik looked like he has been playing the songs every night since they stopped touring. It was the sound of RATM at Red Rocks……it was the lyrics that have been timeless since their beginning. September 7th, 2016 was history at Red Rocks in front of a sold out crowd….Congrats to the Prophets of Rage for bringing back the light of truth to the world of music. We salute you!!!!
