Brain Dead – METAL!!!!
Undoubtedly while sitting in Los Angeles traffic, listening to the radio, Rez thought to himself, ‚ÄúI will go brain dead if I keep listening to this shit.‚ÄĚ From there his brother, Adam Axe agreed, Josh Angel jumped on his drums, and Brain Dead came roaring to life.
The brain child of identical twin brothers, Adam Axe and Rez, affectionately known through the streets of Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley as, ‚ÄúThe Metal Twins,‚ÄĚ have hit their stride with Brain Dead.
Listening to their new album, ‚ÄúDisaster Ahead,‚ÄĚ auditory memory transports you to another time, when heavy metal lumbered through the streets of Los Angeles, sporting leather jackets, waist length hair, alcoholism, and a chip on your shoulder.
The creation of ‚Äúcrossover‚ÄĚ metal as it is known, has many agreeing that it is it‚Äôs own type of fusion. Born of thrash metal, death metal, synth, groove, and punk, Brain Dead‚Äôs version of crossover creates a sound that is reminiscent of Slayer‚Äôs ‚ÄúReign in Blood,‚ÄĚ Randy Rhoades‚Äô ‚ÄúCrazy Train,‚ÄĚ and Pantera‚Äôs ‚ÄúVulgar Display of Power.‚ÄĚ If you listen closely to the wind from the screaming mosh pit tornado, legend says you can hear the influences of Dimebag.
Brain Dead‚Äôs ‚ÄúAge of Disaster Tour 2016‚ÄĚ is blazing on, full steam ahead, also with War Head in support of their new album, ‚ÄúAge of Tomorrow.‚ÄĚ With 8 shows left, they are just over the halfway point, and look forward to eventually thawing out from the snow these Southern California natives are unfamiliar with.
Standing outside the bus, at a truck stop in Wyoming, snow falling on the ground, Rez tells me he is still in disbelief that the music is taking them on this second tour, and couldn‚Äôt be happier about it. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre all so glad that we never stopped. It‚Äôs been hard, but we just never stopped believing that we were making music that needed to be heard.‚ÄĚ
So far, things have gone well, considering these twin brothers are sometimes just that; brothers. Rez explains, ‚ÄúI don‚Äôt even remember what city‚Ķbut I was gonna kill him. Sometimes you see a hurdle, and you got to get over it, man. Our music is what took us here. We‚Äôve seen amazing things, and have met some amazing people on the road. We went to the Alamo. I pissed in, not on, the Alamo.‚ÄĚ
But just like a brother, when one is down, the other is there to help him out.
‚ÄúThat‚Äôs part of the beauty of being twins. If Adam can‚Äôt sing that night, guess who can?‚ÄĚ
The live show is something that truly sets Brain Dead apart from other LA metal bands. The audience is a motley crew, and it is always evident that the crowd is there to see Brain Dead.
‚ÄúThe greatest compliment we can receive is, ‚ÄėI‚Äôm not into your music, but you put on an amazing show!‚Äô It‚Äôs great; I‚Äôm drinking a beer, you‚Äôre drinking a beer. It‚Äôs fucking entertainment.‚ÄĚ
The Los Angeles ‚ÄúHomecoming Show‚ÄĚ on December 21, promises to deliver an amazing show, as well as some surprises, hearing from Rez himself, ‚ÄúWe‚Äôve got a few tricks up our sleeves.‚ÄĚ
Plans for a future 2017 East coast tour are well underway.
Listening to him tell it, the excitement in his voice is palpable. For over 15 years, ‚ÄúThe Metal Twins‚ÄĚ have put their blood, sweat, and tears into creating art, and they are not slowing anytime soon.
Any tips for touring in winter?
‚ÄúListen to our album ‚ÄėDisaster Ahead,‚Äô and let go of the gas when you‚Äôre going over an icy bridge.‚ÄĚ
