Medium Rare- Bagel Masters!
This Week, we’re changing it up a bit over here at the house of GRIME with a Recipe for fluffy Bagels that you can save for the week for all your breakfast and breakfast sandwich needs! These bagels don’t take very long and they’re right up there with those NYC bagels that’ll cost you $7, we’re giving you an out on it.
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
1 ¼ cups warm water
3 ½ cups bread flour
1 ½ teaspoons salt
In ½ cup of the warm water, pour in the sugar and yeast. Do not stir. Let it sit for five minutes, and then stir the yeast and sugar mixture, until it all dissolves in the water. Next, you mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. Make a hole in the middle and pour in the yeast and sugar mixture. Pour 1/3 cup of the remaining warm water into the well. Mix and stir in the rest of the water as needed. Depending on where you live, you may need to add anywhere from a couple tablespoons to about ¼ cup of water. You want a moist and firm dough after you have mixed it. On a floured countertop, knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Try working in as much flour as possible to form a firm and stiff dough. Lightly brush a large bowl with oil and turn the dough to coat. Cover the bowl with a damp dish towel. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, until the dough has doubled in size. Punch the dough down, and let it rest for another 10 minutes. After that, Create 8 equal sized balls of dough, form the bagel shape of your desire, boil water, mixed with salt and agave syrup, toss the bagels in the water and let cook on each side for 2 minutes. When all the Bagels are out of the bath, Load up a cookie sheet with these bad boys and throw them in the oven at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes, let them sit for 10 minutes and BOOM homemade Bagels!
