420 Tradition with Cervantes
Another successful year here in the mile high for April 20th! Every year the events thrown down on this week are growing substantially. And the last few years its been somewhat of a tradition in the mile high with returning acts such as Method Man and Redman, Dizzy Wright, The Underachievers, and Afroman at Cervantes. And so many other amazing artists have came thru on April 20th or the week of such as Cypress Hill, Flatbush Zombies, Joey Badass, Collie Buddz, and scattered members of the Wu Tang Clan.
Cervantes kept it simple but yet still a hard hitting line up this year on April 20th with returning artists Method Man and Redman with opening act support from Afroman, and lets not forget over on the otherside we had the homie ITSevi opening up for Dizzy Wright. So that meant lots of running back and forth thru the middle door to access both stages. Things started off a little slow on the Masterpiece Ballroom side so we started out on the Otherside to check out some of the other acts before the homie ITSevi went on. After chilling there for a minute we heard the music start up on the masterpiece side so it was time to head thru over to catch Afroman. After already walking thru the door we realized it was only the dj warming up while Afroman’s hype man kept asking for security. If you’ve been following Afroman for the last couple of years you know why he was calling for them. Security finally escorted Afroman to the stage with no incident. But an Afroman concert isn’t complete without a few classics to get the crowd rocking,”colt 45” was a absolute definite along with “because I got high” were both to songs that the crowd knew a good amount of the lyrics to rock with him.
As Afroman was finishing up we couldn’t help but to think it was time to head back thru the doors and to see our homie ITSevi. We’ve had a front row seat for the last few years to watching this kid blow up in the mile high. Keep on killing it Derrick! You’ve earned it homie. ITSevi had the whole room jumping up and down getting the crowd way to Hyphy. Now that the crowd was good and ready Dizzy hit the stage wasting no time to jump right into it where ITSevi finished off. Dizzy Wright has been a tradition as well in the mile high on April 20th and hell even a few other months throughout the whole year as he frequents Denver often, We’d say about 3 to 4 times a year Dizzy rolls thru. You can almost guarantee that he will be here sometime in April if not on April 20th itself. But the all time favorite this night hands down had to be super star hip hop elite Johnny Blaze and Reggie Noble, as they should be. We don’t care how many times we’ve seen them either at 420 or another event it never gets old. Method man and Redman have been entertaining us for years now possibly even two decades. We’ve laughed at their movies and kept them on repeat and told ourselves they were in our top 10 favorite movies. We’ve listened to their albums so much that we’ve acquired every word from them and sing along to them as they are randomly played throughout the years. And this is the reason why we as a fan will attend every show they have to offer within reason. And if you yourself are a fan of these two, then I don’t really have to tell you that they absolutely slayed the Masterpiece Ballroom. They are amazing performers that get any crowd hype as fuck. Some of our personal favorite tracks and I’m sure they are probably yours also were played without a doubt.”m.e.t.h.o.d.m.a.n., I’ll be dat, tonight’s da night” and too many others to mention.
As we hate to say this year’s 420 has come to a stop but can’t wait till next year’s celebration in the mile high with awesome friends exclusive terps and sold out venues. See you next year! Spread the Grime!
