Gem and Jam 2018 – Recap
We are so touched by our experiences last weekend at the 2018 Gem and Jam Festival, held in Tucson, Arizona on February 25-28th. There was so much energy and good vibes, as everyone was dancing and smiling… it really felt like one big family! While we dealt with some windy Tucson nights, we still were in a desert bliss. Surrounded by so many like minded people, everything from the music to the dancers, and the artwork was just perfect!
Talking about the artwork, there was so many phenomenal pieces at Gem and Jam this year, from live paintings, as well as finished pieces that were displayed in their own gallery. When we wanted to take a break Heady Spaghetti was one of the unique vendors who creates his own pins and paints them himself. He also makes shirts with hand drawn Aztec or Inca inspired designs, which was inspired by his 4 month trip down to South America.
This festival included mind blowing experiences where we were able to get in some much needed bass therapy. Big Wild was one of the favorite headliners this year, and if you missed this performance, make sure you see him on tour! After his set, we overheard one fan say, “These moments are where I feel most alive!”
With bands like STS9 and Lettuce playing, people did not let up as the party continued late into the night. If you didn’t want the fun to end, lots of people ended up in the warmth of the afterparty at the Onyx stage. Fans and fellow music lovers gazed upon the live painters, light shows, and all while dancing in unison. Some of the memorable artists included Modern Measure, who definitely caught the crowd’s attention with their infusion music, and Breaking Biscuits surprised their crowd with a special appearance of Kevin from Sunsquabi. Bass Physics was dropping hot beats on the Opal stage, and brought out a good sized crowd as well. As the weekend was coming to a close, we were using the day to recuperate and take in that amazing Arizona sun.
Gem & Jam is truly precious as it provided sunshine for our souls and smiles all around. Thank you to everyone who came to show their love, to those who danced, played and meditated. Thank you for your support and appreciation. We watched this festival transform over these last few years and we must say it just gets better and better each year! We couldn’t be more stoked on life, and to get funky at Gem and Jam. Here’s to the nights that turned into mornings, and the friends who turned into family.
